A virtual platform of electrical tomography for multiphase flow imaging

This paper reports a new approach to quantitatively evaluate the performance of Electrical Tomography (ET) in measuring dynamic multiphase flows. A virtual flow imaging platform based on ET is constructed and demonstrated two typical gas–liquid flows, i.e., water–gas oil–gas flow. Two coupling simulation cases, field electric currents electrostatics simulation, are performed simulate sensing Impedance (EIT) Capacitance (ECT). We evaluated representative EIT ECT image reconstruction algorithms evaluation bringing evidence improved capability capture key features fluid mixture with respect traditional static phantoms. Ad-hoc treatment signal noise enables one better responses phase volume fractions their spatial gradients throughout mixing along conduit, ultimately demonstrating unprecedented potential quantitative characterization complex, unsteady multi-phase systems. The proposed constitutes highly effective for ET, parameter optimization model-based algorithms, development data-driven imaging.
